MUDCLOTH Origin: Mali. Status: Newly made. Also known as Bogolanfini. Mudcloth is a hand-woven and hand-dyed textile from the Segou region of Mali. The cotton is first woven into 5" strips which are then stitched together to make a piece measuring 1 metre x 1.65 metres approximately. Designs are then applied to the cloth using various natural dyes; such as tree bark, river mud etc. Each mudcloth is made by an individual artisan and can take 2 to 3 weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the design and the number of dyes used. Mudcloth uses traditional artisan techniques.
